Title Block Analysis Of 'Kerrang'

I have analysed 3 title blocks in detail. I mention the assumptions each title block makes of potential reader and because of the colour, font and style of the title block, what audience it could be trying to target. These title block analysis would help me decide and focus on the title block design i use for my magazine and make sure the design matches the correct target audience and makes spot on assumptions on my magazine. Below I is the 'Kerrang' title block analysis.

From looking at the title block, it suggests that this title block belongs to a rock/metal genre of music.

The black and white are both contrasting colours which can both help each other to show a meaning. The use of the colour black would normally represent strong and powerful personality and as white is neutral and reflects things, it could help to emphasise the power of the colour black. The use of these colours may contradict with each other as it is powerful black versing neutral white but it makes good combination which could suggest that rock and metal also make a good combination together as well.

The font used is again very big and bold and there are cracks visible across some letters which looks a bit like broken glass and this could not only emphasise power but a very hard exterior as it may be cracked but not broken into pieces which could emphasises that its targeting a male rock/metal audience as well as the big capital letters which also highlights the hard and serious exterior which resembles to many males.

‘Kerrang’ sounds like a use of onomatopoeia, of a guitar, perhaps a electric guitar which suggests that the magazine is representing something of rock in their magazine.  The exclamation mark at the end implies the loudness of the guitar sound being played as well as implying seriousness because of what the colour black may also represent.

Despite the broken glass look which represents a hard exterior which resembles men, there is no colour or a specific type of font and style used to show it’s not being a gender / sex biased. However the title seems to look like a strong outgoing type of font and the broken glass looks like what would be done by for example people having fun, people like teenagers, so it could be aimed at teenagers who like going out and like rock / metal genre of music.
